Reflection 1:
After reading the PDF attached named Subversive Art and watching the documentary on the Belarus Free Theatre https://vimeo.com/125995698 , I want you to reflect on the use of Theatre (or really any art form) as a subversive political tool. While there are clearly dangers in creating subversive art in dictatorships and fascist countries can you think of any examples in modern US History where films and/or theatre/ art could be seen as being used for subversive purposes and how this cause trouble/danger for the artists?
As a follow up, I would also like you to think of why Subversive art is necessary (or is it) and talk about your thoughts on artists who are not interested in “conforming”.
250 to 300 words needed.
